15 Video Game Sequels That Totally Defined Their Franchises

1. Fallout 3

When Bethesda acquired the Fallout franchise from original creators Black Isle Studios, it split the fans right down the middle. On the one half you had people overjoyed that the big-budget heft of the Elder Scrolls maestros themselves turning their attention to one of the most interesting and enjoyable post-apocalyptic fictions out there - and on the other were the lovers of the original game's slower pace, real-world named weapons and general tonality questioning every big budget design choice. Luckily for the most part - aside from a handful of bugs and glitches anyway - the resulting first-person open-world extravaganza was everything it purported to be, capitalising on the world's lore and letting you carve your own path through the many characters of the world - or blowing them to smithereens in slow-motion if you weren't keen. Bethesda's magic touch elevated not only the franchise overall into untold realms of pure geekdom where everybody worth their gaming salt has journeyed through the Wastelands at least once, but they also shone a light on a franchise that was always worthy of far more exposure along the way too. What games somewhat fluffed their first instalments only to stick the landing and nail the sequel? Let us know in the comments, and join the Facebook for more!
