15 Video Game Sequels That Totally Defined Their Franchises

14. Final Fantasy VII

Gaming nerds can argue 'til the cows come home which Final Fantasy is the entry in the series that everyone should play - although there's only one title out the lot that really made the world sit up and take notice. Cloud and co.'s adventures through Midgar and beyond are still just as enjoyable now because of everything that made them such a massive deal in the first place. The score is spectacular, the combat refined to a knife's edge of perfection, all with a materia system that lets you remix and rework items and weapons to just the right amount of customisability topped off with characters that are lovably brought to life. Obviously the graphics get a huge amount of flak these days for looking like a Lego factory blew up, but if you're playing on PC this is far less of an issue - and with that being part of the retro charm in itself and the original version finally getting something of a 'remaster' on PS4 (PC port) it's still the best thing to revisit until FF XV comes later this year.
