2. Yakuza 4 (PS3)
Like the world's most proficient underdog that if given the spotlight would do a few hundred backflips and endear itself to millions, Sega's Yakuza series is as big as GTA over in Japan, and for very good reason. Part 4 is taking centre stage here as it was released in 2010, but both that and three were absolutely spectacular games. The aforementioned GTA comment was only to make a comparison on popularity as that mis-marketed approach was what tanked the first Yakuza game on Western shores in 2006, so instead do away with that notion altogether as the sequels have turned into some of the best action-focussed RPGs in gaming history. All games centre around an overblown version of the Yakuza gangs in Japan, with main man Kazuma Kiryu joined for the first time by three more playable characters, all with different playstyles and ties to the nefarious means that snake underneath the city. Plot-twists abound as Metal Gear-styled overblown characters all go about their business, and no matter who's chunk of the game you're controlling, when you factor in tons of side missions, a gorgeously-realised world based on Tokyo's Kabukicho region bustling with everything from golfing minigames to random battles with thugs and gangsters, the Yakuza series remains an essential exclusive Sony really need to promote more.
