15. Super Mario's 'Italian Plumber Princess Rescue' (Modern Warfare)
You have to pay tribute to the classics, right? Activision have been going long enough, they've rubbed shoulders and gone up against industry heavyweights like Mario, Sonic and everyone in between. As such, rather than ignore gaming's incredibly tumultuous history, they paid tribute to it - in a way that wouldn't get Nintendo's lawyers coming knocking either. On the Estate level in Modern Warfare, make your way to the large TV screen inside the titular home, to which you'll find a parodic 'Gamestation' (a fake name close to some real-world knock-offs I've come across), next to the wonderfully-named 'Italian Plumber Princess Rescue' sitting atop a stack of games. The art assets used are in very low-res, but you can make out the text well enough - although whatever that picture is on the front is anybody's guess. I'm going for 'close up shot of a toadstool' as a reference to Princess Peach's name in the original Donkey Kong; Princess Toadstool.
