5. Destiny 2

Is a game where you pick large expanses of land from a menu still an open-world game?

Answers on a postcard, but if Destiny 2 mimics the original's option to drop onto planets and hoover up side missions and enemy camps, it'll definitely tick the box of freeform exploration.

Outside of that assumption though, we know Bungie are ostensibly making Destiny 2 into what the original was initially advertised as. That means a far better fleshed-out world, a proper story with characters, motivations, cutscenes that make sense (!), and everything in between.

At this stage the average Destiny player's hour count is no short than 500 (yes, really), as Bungie really do make some of the most exquisite shooting on the market. If Destiny 2 can deliver on more of that, with more weapons, great characters and fun worlds to drink in, it'll be outstanding.
