It can't be understated just how much of a good thing free backwards compatibility is. Whilst Sony are so far out in front they can afford to lay their reputation on the line by asking you to pay for titles you most likely already own, Microsoft and Nintendo both offer free emulation instead.

The reality of just how many remasters and reboots are currently in development does factor into what's available (where my Red Dead, Rockstar?!), but Microsoft are not only updating a 'master list' of what works perfectly, but every month on Xbox Live's Games with Gold, any free 360 games will automatically work on the Xbox One.
