4. Gears Of War 4

Another Xbox franchise that's been away for far too long, Gears' last numbered instalment was 2011's trilogy-capper, with the completely forgettable (yet narratively interesting) Gears of War: Judgment releasing in 2013.

For Gears 4, Microsoft have given the series over to newly-formed devs, The Coalition, who have taken a nice left turn away from continually playing as Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad, putting you in the shoes of Fenix's son, JD.

Marcus will still show up as part of the story (maybe as a vision JD's haunted by, going off the trailer), and gameplay will be more of the same cover-focussed Gears-style shooting, interspersed with bouts of gruesome, up-close fatalities. Yes, you know exactly how that's going to look and play, and yes, you've done it four times before, but Gears hasn't been on the go for three years, making October 2016 ripe for a return to the beloved franchise with open arms.
