16 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Nintendo
3. The Game Boy Was A Breakthrough Creation From A Janitor
Don't ever let anyone tell you not to reach for your dreams - something one Gunpei Yokoi realised back in the late 1970s, when after being both a janitor and assembly line worker, he used his engineering degree to create a couple of toys in his spare time. Eventually Nintendo's higher-ups noticed these inventions, and with renewed confidence he pioneered the 'Game & Watch' LCD system of 1980.
Following this, Yokoi would develop many prototypes for a followup to his original vision, birthing the generation-defining Game Boy in 1989. Sadly a car accident claimed his life in 1997, but as a lot of Nintendo's loveable identity comes from these handhelds, his legacy will always live on in every single one of them.
