11. The Intro - Brutal Legend
Double Fine's Brutal Legend is a game that should be known as a love letter to all things heavy metal - so perfect is its pairing of everything from a vintage devil horn-throwing soundtrack to corralling both Lemmy and Ozzy Osbourne as characters that it was a real shame when the whole thing fell apart almost immediately. Sticking with the good though, the whole opening scene plays out like some Pixar-does-metal collaboration, with Double Fine's fantastic humour bringing to life Jack Black's character Eddie Riggs as he's transported into a world where heavy metal artwork really has come to life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtTA_XKqJwU#t=135 Having Black Sabbath's Children of the Grave tick away in the background only to kick in when you grab an axe out the ground - and realising you can literally slay demons with the power of guitar riffs alone - is one of the high points of the entire generation. Everything from the opening cutscene through to the boss battle with 'Big Licky' as Riggs calls a certain tongue-waggling demon is the perfect execution on a formula that to this day hurts wasn't used more effectively throughout.
