4. Shovel Knight
From sad tales of love lost from years of marriage, to a title that'll make you fall for it with just the opening notes of its soundtrack, Yacht Club's Shovel Knight appeared last year and positively dominated the forums of essentially every gaming site thanks to playing like a dream, and providing everyone with a character and world they could instantly get on board with.
It's obviously a callback to the platformers of old, and that's not to understate the difficulty that used to come with anything released around the late 80's (and onwards) gaming scene. As the titular Knight your weapon choice is of course the now-iconic shovel, and you'll set about conquering the lands with the hope of finding your one true love; Shield Knight.
Through a slew of awesome bosses that'll challenge your reflexes like nothing this side of Axiom Verge or Bloodborne, to a bunch of items you can take on your travels to do things like fish and throw fireballs - it's Shovel Knight's sense of humour and worthwhile dedication from Yacht Club themselves that make this something you can tell is already being regarded as a classic.
