18 Best Indie Games Of The Decade (So Far)
16. Don't Starve
From a thoroughly drab game to one that's got enough character to rival Pixar, Klei Entertainment's gorgeous survival tale puts you in the shoes of a variety of characters and simply says "Hey, don't starve!", before letting you figure everything out on your own.
Although the genre is pretty packed with games that just plonk you somewhere and let you figure the rest out (Day Z and The Long Dark are both great titles too) it's Don't Starve that has an entire world hand-drawn by Klei's spectacular art department, creating everything from the loveable character designs of Winston to creatures like Chester the walking storage crate, and the Beefalo who roam the lands.
There's no endgame to DS aside from eventually encountering the person who put you on the island in the first place, but it's in drawing parallels to what you'd do in real life, seeing how long you can last and learning the whys and wherefores of this gorgeously rendered Tim Burton-esque world that'll hook you for days.
