8. Figuring Out The Tetronimo Puzzles - The Witness
Jonathan Blow's The Witness isn't for everyone, and that's perfect - not every game should be, or will ever need to be.
Instead, it's a cerebrally-perplexing puzzler set on an island, with you searching for meaning and purpose amongst a number of different puzzles, all based around guiding a light beam from one place to another. Figuring out what each puzzle's symbol means and how the rules work is part of the fun (and the frustration), but there's one area, the Marsh, that caused the most confusion.
Featuring a number of Tetronimo puzzles (Tetris symbols adorn the panels you'll interact with), the solution to this thing - actually managing to crack the code that'll inevitably cause you hours upon hours of frustration - is the embodiment of everything The Witness does better every other puzzle game on the market.
