15. Dark Souls III

Let the PS4 owners keep Bloodborne, it's the multiplatform Dark Souls III that's really worth shouting about. You can check out my full review for a proper 5-star appraisal, but sufficed to say, this is the best that FromSoftware and creator Hidetaka Miyazaki's venerable 'Souls formula' has ever been.

What was once a slightly awkward hack n' slash RPG has blossomed into a truly polished and cerebral experience, one that pays tribute to its past games through varying degrees of fan service, whilst welcoming new players with a difficulty curve that ramps up accordingly.

It all compounds into one of the most furiously addictive games you'll ever play. Bosses are epic affairs where you'll have to occasionally think outside the box or truly hone your reflexes to win, environments are tailored to be deliciously inviting yet withholden of vicious enemies round every corner, and gameplay itself is everything Bloodborne advanced, but rounded off with more weapons, items and upgrade possibilities than ever.

Dark Souls III is my early frontrunner for Game of the Year, and you should get your hands on it no matter where your console allegiance lies.
