18 Greatest Last Levels In Gaming History
3. Arsenal Gear - Metal Gear Solid: Sons Of Liberty
Although everyone lamented the inability to play as Solid Snake in this hotly anticipated sequel, you have to admit, having him show up as a side-character made his appearance in this second game feel kind of mythical. Seeing Snake through the eyes of someone else awards him a kind of legend status, as you're able to fawn over him and see him act in a completely different way than he would have if you were controlling him.
Which makes it even more awesome when you finally get to fight alongside the iconic character. After being teased the entire game, the final level has you cutting through bad guys with a sword while Solid Snake blows away hundreds of goons with an infinite ammo machine gun.
Never one to be straightforward though, Kojima's final stretch isn't just one long corridor shooter, but a surreal, post-modern fire-fight. With the level being littered with confusing fourth wall breaking elements that make it seem like your game is going haywire, all the while receiving cryptic calls from the Colonel (who turns out to be one of the creepiest AIs ever) Kojima turns this final mission into one of the weirdest, but most memorable, levels of any video game.
