There's another, far more obvious game developed by FromSoftware that'll pop up later on this list, but for Bloodborne, director Hidetaka Miyazaki wanted to take that game's core combat and shake-up the genre entirely.
Thus, Bloodborne is positively - and literally - dripping in survival horror atmosphere, alongside tons of Lovecraftian beasties peppering the landscape, all whilst giving you a bevy of transforming steampunk weapons to take them down.
The one thing it lacks is class variation - hence being so high up this list - but for art design, level design and overall progression from start to finish, Bloodborne is one hell of a ride.
