18 Greatest Video Games Of The PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 Generation

4. Grand Theft Auto V

Few series' can match the consistent brilliance of Grand Theft Auto. Each title released on the PlayStation 2 was a contender to be the best in the series and that degree of excellence continued onto the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Grand Theft Auto IV might have taken a step too far away from the' infamous over-the-top style some people love, but Grand Theft Auto V (released at the very end of both consoles' lifespans) upped the ante in the crazy stakes once again. Returning to San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto had a new lease of life. The new triple-protagonist storyline might have made things confusing and cumbersome but instead, Rockstar managed to tie the whole thing together exceptionally well. The missions where you could flip between controlling Michael, Franklin and Trevor on the fly were full of excitement and variety. Of course, it helped that every character had their own personality with Trevor becoming a fast favourite for his antics. The main focus of the game was on big scale heists; intricately-planned missions which required co-operation from all three of our "heroes". The payout at the end of each was nice but it was the satisfaction of pulling off these technically demanding missions which was the real reward. Even away from missions there's plenty to do and see in San Andreas; including golf, tennis or even - quite bizarrely - yoga. It's a world that's bustling with life and activity everywhere, and it looks glorious, even on near-decade old hardware. GTA: Online might have hit some server issues on its scheduled launch but now everything has settled down it's a great way to get your Grand Theft Auto fix quickly, whether it's shooting up foes in Team Deathmatch, beating them on the roads in a race or even playing a relaxing nine-hole round of golf. It's a well-rounded package with hours upon hours of entertainment and it perfectly demonstrates why despite the controversy Grand Theft Auto is one of gaming's greatest.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
