2017's Nier: Automata told one hell of a tale. Alternately tear-jerking and triumphant, Automata's tale of fetish-wear suited androids battling in a post-apocalyptic Earth wound up being one of video games' greatest ever stories.

And this year fans can put themselves through the emotional wringer again with the ridiculously titled Nier Replicant Ver. 1.22474487139...

A remake of the 2010 original, Nier Replicant is the prequel to Automata and contains a lot of what made the latter such a beloved game. An emotionally charged story, memorable characters and one of the greatest soundtracks composed in any medium of entertainment made Nier a flawed masterpiece.

Nier Replicant's janky gameplay never quite matched the level of its story-telling, but it's a tribute to the tale it tells that it's remake is still one of 2021's most anticipated games.
