19 Things We Learned From The Metal Gear Solid Series

10. Harry Gregson-Williams Is An Absolute God Of Composition

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q07vkhocnlc An entry purely to showcase the talents of series-regular Mr. Williams, as without his hair-raising scores or iconic sound effects padding out the backgrounds of each game, there'd be a markedly reduced sense of tension. Brought on for the second big-budget game back in 2001 he's been included in every iteration since, he's put forth everything from the phenomenally sombre arrangement for Guns of the Patriots to the tension-wracking intro for Sons of Liberty. The man is yet to put a foot wrong, and his composition is truly exemplary throughout every title.

9. That One Guard Never Found Out Whose Footprints They Were

Remember the first time this happened? As if Kojima and the team weren't content with revolutionising the idea of game-design by way of inventing an entire new genre, they hammered home their ability to predict how you were going to play, by including this guard who - after you'd darted behind an object for cover - exclaims "Who's footprints are these?!" and proceeds to track you down. It might not seem like much to anyone in today's world of televisions that can do backflips while making your breakfast, but in '98? It was incredible.
