20 Announced Video Games You Won't Play For YEARS

4. Ōkami 2

The fact that a sequel to 2006's cult classic action-adventure game Ōkami is happening at all will be enough to sustain fans for the foreseeable future.

Though the first game was a commercial flop on original release, various remasters over the last decade-plus allowed it to sell well enough that Capcom finally saw value in Ōkami as a brand.

And so, Ōkami 2 was announced at The Game Awards 2024, with original director Hideki Kamiya returning to helm the follow-up with a new studio, Clovers.

But if you were hopeful that the game had been in development in earnest before this, sadly not, as Kamiya's non-compete contract after leaving PlatinumGames only expired in November 2024, meaning that the official announcement basically sparked the very beginning of development.

With that in mind, and knowing the surprisingly beefy length of the original Ōkami, it doesn't seem likely fans will be playing it for a while.

At the start of this year, Clovers president Kento Koyama said it was "still a ways off," which says it all really.
