In 1983 Sega licensed and sold their own home versions of Bally/Midway’s classic Spy Hunter and were desperate for more of the same. So rather than wait for Bally/Midway to come up with a true sequel they created one of their own in Action Fighter.

This game featured the same top down viewpoint and a similar plot (chase after the enemy agents and kill them or run them off the road) but now saw you changing into different vehicles including a motorbike and even a fighter jet.
