20 Awesome PS4 Exclusives You Need To Play Before PS5
13. The Last Guardian
Ok, remember when absolutely nobody thought this game would actually ever come out?
First starting development in 2007, The Last Guardian's long and storied development cycle took place over console generations and the best part of a decade, with an initial reveal at E3 2009 for the PlayStation 3, and finally releasing in 2016 for the PS4.
Thankfully the title turned out to be worth the wait - like director Fumito Ueda's previous games, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian is quite unlike anything else on the market, and tells a beautiful story about a young boy befriending a mysterious beast named Trico.
It's Trico that really makes The Last Guardian something special. This weird cat/bird hybrid is beautifully animated, portraying a range of emotions and is integral to both navigation and solving the puzzles throughout this title. You find yourself becoming increasingly attached to Trico as time goes on, and the game often throws heart-wrenching moment after moment at you that'll have you probably in tears, or at least close to it.
