12. Death Stranding

Shadow Of The Colossus
Sony

After year upon year of trailers where nothing made any sense at all, and everyone was wondering if this game would ever come out, Death Stranding did eventually release, and, somehow, it all made sense?

Despite the fact that you spend the vast majority of the game walking from location to location, delivering packages, Death Stranding is a compelling adventure with an intriguing world and narrative.

At its core, the package delivery is what the game is all about - however, Kojima Productions do an excellent job of consistently introducing new and useful gameplay elements and mechanics as the game goes on, keeping your missions interesting.

For example, a mission at the start, where you slogged up a mountain with only two ladders and your determination, can be made so much easier in the future with upgrades that you receive.

Narrative-wise, it's your typical Kojima fare, filled with ridiculous goings-on ranging from gigantic oil monsters to invisible ghost babies. If you see it through to the end it all ties together really nicely, and it tells a really personal tale set against a post-apocalyptic world.
