6. Mario Kart DS

Since each Mario Kart game simply improves upon what came before it, there's not much reason to go back to many of the Mario Kart games that aren't the most recent one. There are a few exceptions to this rule though, such as with Mario Kart DS.

Mario Kart DS has a few features that you can only get there. You can create your own kart emblem, yes, but most importantly, this game has missions.

Mario Kart DS is still the peak of single-player Mario Kart content because of the missions. There are six sets of missions, each set has eight levels and a boss fight. Yep, this game has boss fights, some of them are just races but a few of them are actual fights where you must use your kart and power-ups as weapons.

There are 16 new tracks and 16 returning tracks. The game introduces fan-favourite courses like Waluigi Pinball and Tick-Tock Clock.

Mario Kart DS also introduces the character of R.O.B. to the series, this being the first time a non-Mario character has been in a Mario Kart game. And you thought Endgame was a huge crossover.
