17. Stardew Valley

Sometimes you just need to unwind; get away from all the hustle n' bustle of mass-killing, saving the world or climbing clocktowers to synchronise viewpoints.

Sometimes, you just need a break in the countryside, Harvest Moon-style, and Stardew Valley delivers on that premise better than any of the aforementioned franchise's entries have in years. Mixing the standard "expand land, build farmhouses, buy livestock, date the local populace" framework and adding a brilliant quest system that also factors in a dungeon full of weapons and loot to find, at any given time Stardew has a TON going on.

Overtop there's a story of saving the small town from capitalistic Joja Mart who've opened up a chain nearby, letting you get acquainted with various characters and motivations along the way.

Fundamentally though, Stardew is just lush - a confident game that is just as much a breath of fresh air as a certain other Hyrulean adventurer we'll get to later...
