Naughty Dog have mentioned many times that until Jak II, they were busy perfecting their own brand of platforming magic and innovating within the genre itself. Then GTA III came along, and they - in every sense of the word - "Looked up".

Enter Jak II, their 'gritty' and 'dark' sequel that nobody saw coming. Thankfully, Naughty Dog are the absolute masters at this stuff, and Renegade turned out brilliantly, combining third-person shooting segments with a hoverboard you could bust out whenever you liked, more exemplary platforming and animation that further proved why Naughty Dog truly are one of the best developers around.
