One thing you've gotta admire about Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima is his unwavering commitment to the bizarre, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is a perfect blend of surreal post-modernism with a heavy focus on militaristic storytelling. Part of what makes Metal Gear work is that stealth experience, which Sons of Liberty took to an even greater level from MGS1. MGS2 would not be the game it is without the jump in hardware from the PlayStation 1 to the PS2, where the visuals took an incredible leap in quality. In-game, MGS2 throws a whole bunch of new things out there for the player to use in their journey; the ability to hold up guards, hang off ledges and shoot in first-person view all work in a perfect balance with each other.
