20 Best Stealth Video Games Of All Time

1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Where 2001's Metal Gear Solid 2 took us into the then future year of 2009, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater took a trip back in time to the 1960's. The Cold War-era is rich for storytelling, and Snake Eater capitalizes on it perfectly with its tale of deception that doesn't quit until the bitter end. Snake Eater makes clever use of a camouflage system in order to track your progress; the more appropriate the camouflage you have on, the better hidden you are. It's an inventive way to challenge the player, forcing them to swap out that jungle camo for a new desert suit in order to remain hidden. This works great next to the close-combat CQC system, adding a lot more physical freedom to your sneaking that wasn't present in other Metal Gear titles. Everything in Snake Eater is operating to its max, from its incredible forward momentum to the unique way it plays with stealth and stands as the greatest stealth game ever made.
