Light on nuance and heavy on chainsawing chest-cavities in half, the Gears' series isn't known for nailing anything even close to an 'emotional moment', but little do fans realise the series was initially pegged to have far more of a darker, self-reflective tone - seen in the Mad World teaser trailer. Still, even though there was a focus on gunfire and explosions, you got to know the squad of Marcus, Dom, Cole and Baird pretty darn well, making for a surprisingly somber moment in part two, with Dom discovering the wife he'd been seeking actually died long ago. Carry that through into the third game and he'd essentially lost his will to fight, and with enemy forces surrounding the squad and all manner of death-dealing hell about to descend, Dom chooses to buy the team some time by taking a tanker and ramming it into the epicentre of the oncoming horde. It's then that the Mad World theme returns, and the whole series goes full circle, providing quite the touching moment amongst a sea of carnage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEq0oV21tHI
