20 Best Video Games Of 2018
10. Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee
Its DNA might be straight out of 1998, but Game Freak completely overhauled the vast majority of Pokémon Yellow to become Let's Go, and that's before you factor in Pokémon Go integration.
The result is one of the finest top-down RPGs ever made, being given just the right amount of modernisation to make it work all over again; the exemplary nostalgic fan service being a cherry on top.
Best of all, Game Freak have removed the grind many players forgot dragged down the older instalments. Not only can you see which pokémon are out in the wild, but XP is spread across your party after catching, and that itself is done with berries and targeted throws like Pokémon GO. The world is just as layered with secrets and hidden routes as before, and retroactive additions like Mega Evolutions and Alolan forms give you more reason to explore and trade.
Fans of the original 150 just wanted to play a love letter to their childhood, and while Pokémon Let's Go does tick that box, it's objectively an supremely well balanced, rewarding RPG on top.
