7. Final Fantasy VII Remake

20 years after first being mentioned, Final Fantasy VII Remake emerged as Square Enix's most lavish production yet.

Knowing they couldn't get a hair wrong, FF7R's production value is immaculate. Incredible character models and animations, re-recruiting legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu to rescore his initial work from 1997 - this is straight-up video game royalty being re-approached, the result a love letter to that original title, alongside the wider Final Fantasy VII fandom in every respect.

The new plot twists and future teases are absolutely bonkers, but FF7R succeeds in unifying new players and veterans alike, because neither of us really know what the future holds.
