20 Best Wii U Games Of All Time
10. Splatoon
One of the best things about Nintendo is how they never really just copy what's popular. They'll either come up with completely new ideas or add a fun twist to a popular idea to make it distinctively Nintendo.
For example, Pikmin added a fun new twist to the real-time strategy genre and the Luigi's Mansion games take the basic gameplay loop of survival horror titles, makes it family-friendly, and adds its own new mechanics.
The best example of this though is easily Splatoon, Nintendo looked at online multiplayer shooters and added a fun Nintendo twist to it.
Instead of shooting bullets, you shoot ink. Whilst shooting enemies is a part of the game, the main objective is to cover the field in your ink, this makes Splatoon a truly unique feeling title- if you exclude Splatoon 2 of course.
Not only does the gameplay feel truly its own but it also has a distinct style, mixing the Japanese youth fashion culture, with squids, ink, and an apocalypse.
With Splatoon 2 existing there's not much reason to go back to the first game but that doesn't mean Splatoon isn't great.
