2. The Infamous Torture Mission

Grand Theft Auto V has given us numerous memorably WTF moments over the course of this list, but it would be completely untrue to suggest any of those could top the game's most talked about mission. In Trevor Phillips' part of the mission 'By The Book', players are forced into committing torturous acts by an FIB agent.

Trevor's involvement in the mission is entirely set around the torture sequence, where the player is asked to employ various tools and techniques in an attempt to get info out of Mr K. It features some of the most graphic and disturbing images of the series to date, and received widespread criticism at the game's release.

While Rockstar's vision of accurately representing a world in which this type of activity has genuinely occurred is admirable, you have to wonder whether the extended sequence was really so necessary. Given that safer interview and interrogation techniques were very well employed in Rockstar's L.A. Noire, the torture mission feels all the more shocking.
