20 Classic Nintendo Games That Desperately Deserve Sequels
16. Zapper Games
Okay, this one is admittedly a cheat. Simply put: We want more Zapper games, and we're not feeling too particular about which ones they are. When Nintendo announced the Wii, they also showed off a variety of gun "shells" for the Wii Remote, one of which would become the Wii Zapper. That came with Link's Crossbow Training, and while a fun game, it was far from enough to quench our thirst for more. Third parties did release a number of Zapper-compatible games, true, but nothing else really came from Nintendo themselves. Prior to the Wii Zapper's release, they even teased us with a short mini-game in Wii Play which was fashioned after the NES pack-in title Duck Hunt, but which lacked any sort of duration. And it's not like there weren't plenty of other titles to choose from for an update: Based on the FBI training facility of the same name, this title would wheel cardboard cut-outs of criminals and civilians across the screen in either a shooting range or a simulated city block. Once their cut-outs' identities are confirmed, you have only a moment to identify and shoot the perps while avoiding the innocents. Meanwhile, a third mode tests your trick-shooting as you pelt cans with shots to bounce them through the air to their proper platforms. Gumshoe is a unique twist on the platforming genre: As the detective, Mr. Stevenson, moves across the landscape in pursuit of his kidnapped daughter, players need to shoot at him to make him jump. All the while, enemies and obstacles abound which must also be shot to keep Stevenson safe. Yoshi's Safari is an oft-overlooked gem from the Super NES. Though not technically a Zapper game, it uses the Super Scope, which is a light gun just the same. You play as Mario from a first-person perspective, blasting away foes and giant Koopa mechs, Meanwhile, Yoshi is the driver to your gunner, marching forward all the while as the pair of you work in tandem to march through the worlds of Jewellery Land to save its king and his son. There's not been another Mario game like this since, and it really is a shame.
