Starcraft is considered a national pastime in South Korea - that's just how amazingly big this game is. Way before the days of live streaming, Starcraft was receiving entire television channels dedicated to broadcasting the game to homes in South Korea; how many others can boast about that? It helps that Starcraft is probably the best real-time strategy game ever created. With its own unique lore and a set of interesting races, the world of Starcraft is a big draw for people. While there's nothing majorly revolutionary about its gameplay, its hard to criticise a game that has come to define what an RTS should be. Its also remarkably balanced for a game featuring three playable races, each one possessing unique characteristics and play-styles. It's not hard to see why Starcraft has such an immense popularity. It's sequel - Wings Of Liberty - was equally well received, though the original Starcraft just tops it due to the sequel's lack of LAN play making it difficult to set up for competitions. It does have vastly improved matchmaking though and it's just as good as the original, so there's little reason to avoid Starcraft II if the now dated look of the first game puts you off. However, the popularity of the original Starcraft was extraordinary and it definitely deserves to be marked as one of the most competitive games of all time.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
