20 Most Competitive Video Games Of All Time

18. Halo 3

When the Xbox 360 launched way back in 2005, it lacked a killer title. Gears Of War did help fill a Halo-shaped void but people were awaiting the launch of Microsoft's biggest franchise on the console since day one. It was well worth the wait - Halo 3's multiplayer is an absolute blast, and surprisingly for a console shooter it developed a major competitive scene too. Even today, there are still hundreds who compete online in Halo 3. The game was well supported by Major League Gaming (self-proclaimed as the biggest and best in eSports) with a playlist dedicated to the frequently changing rules and regulations of the eSport crowd. Much of this hinges on one weapon - the Battle Rifle. It kills a Spartan with four shots to the head; and becoming proficient with it is a must for high-level play. Of course, professional play is very different from a friendly game and Halo 3 caters for everyone; the newly added Forge mode allows you to customise maps the way you see fit (with some templates added to the main game for everyone to play on) and there's a range of custom modes for countless hours of fun. Teaming up is fun and all but there's nothing quite like planting a sniper shot right in the visor of your friend's head in a 1v1 showdown.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
