20 Essential N64 Games You Must Play Before You Die

12. Star Wars Episode I: Racer

LucasArts

The Phantom Menace will never win any awards for being a good film, let alone a good Star Wars one, but there's one thing that it did right that makes me glad it exists.

Sandwiched between protracted dialogue sequences featuring a snooty Obi-Wan Kenobi and the eternally-annoying Jar Jar on one end and a whiny Anakin Skywalker on the other, the film's Podracing sequence is a diamond in the rough in an otherwise poorly-disguised soap opera filmed in front of a green screen. It felt real.

And so, it should come as no surprise that the best scene in Episode I gave rise to one of the best arcade 'racing' games ever made. Holding the title of best-selling sci-fi racer ever isn't something to scoff at.

Remember: Sebulba always wins.
