Although yeah, Princess Peach has spent most of her gaming history as nothing other than a token damsel in distress, it's actually a testament to how a distinctive design and fan adoration can make even this much of an archetypal character one of the medium's greatest personalities. And if you just think Peach is a reward to be rescued then you've definitely never played any of her own headlining games or fought as her in Smash Bros., where she'll kick your ass without breaking a sweat. More importantly though, Peach acts as an attractive symbol to people who aren't gamers, as she's one of the many Nintendo mascots and one of the reasons a lot of younger girls who wouldn't otherwise be interested want to play games in the first place.
