Developer: Nintendo Release: 1991 Notable Games: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid With the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Nintendo proved themselves as the kings of first-party content. Packed with titles featuring legendary Nintendo icons such as Mario, Star Fox, Link and Samus, the SNES library features a ridiculously high percentage of unmissable games. The SNES was a huge step up from the NES on a graphical front, and the console allowed for some incredibly detailed 2D artwork. This most notably lent itself to the RPGs and action titles on the system, leading to three of the greatest 2D RPGs ever made: Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Final Fantasy VI. If that's not enough to convince you of the SNES being one of the greatest consoles ever made, it's also the system that brought us Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid, Mega Man X, Secret of Mana, Super Mario World and Star Fox. That's quite a repertoire of classic games for just one console.
