Developer: Rare Platform: Nintendo 64 Release: 1997 Goldeneye 007 might be getting more dated by the year, but it's still more than deserving of a mention for more than just being a pioneer. The game's classic split-screen multiplayer modes managed to set the template for almost every popular shooter to this day, and the realistic setting moved the genre away from the more traditional Doom-likes. The single-player campaign was great, but it was for the multiplayer that Goldeneye 007 was on everyone's Christmas lists. The controls might seem fiddly by today's standards, but at the time they allowed for an unprecedented amount of control thanks to the Nintendo 64's duel use of the thumbstick and arrow buttons. One of the most important games ever released, it's thanks to Goldeneye 007 that we have the console FPS market that exists today.
