Release: 2001 Platform: GameCube Of all mainstream fighting games, the Super Smash Bros. series takes itself the least seriously. Despite the fact that it might look like a cheap attempt at conveniently bringing everyone's favourite Nintendo characters into one game, the Smash Bros. franchise is built on rock solid gameplay and ridiculously fun multiplayer action. Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube is arguably the best in the series, thanks to the large character roster and tight controls offered by the console's controller. While additions to the single-player, such as the Adventure Mode and extended 'Classic Mode' were well appreciated, Melee was at its best when playing the perfect four-player multiplayer late into the night.
