Release: 1990 Platform: SNES Packed-in with the launch of the SNES, Super Mario World is the fifth entry in the Super Mario series. Following Mario and Luigi as they attempt to save Dinosaur Land from the clutches of Bowser, Super Mario World featured a number of improvements and additions over previous Mario games that made it one of the most innovative titles in the series. Several of the new gameplay elements in Super Mario World completely revolutionised the platformer, particularly the rideable Yoshi. The loveable green dinosaur was able to swallow many of the game's monsters, often gaining a special power depending on the type of enemy. Speeding through the wonderfully designed levels while spitting out fireballs from Yoshi's mouth is one of the most exhilarating platforming experiences of all time.
