20 Greatest Video Games Of The 80s

13. Wasteland

Year: 1988 Platform: PC, C64, Apple II Predecessor to the legendary Fallout series, Wasteland was also set in a post-apocalyptic United States, albeit with a much more serious and darker tone. Inspired by tabletop RPG gaming, Wasteland allowed players to surmount challenges using far more than brute force. Like the Fallout games, Wasteland allowed players to talk their way out of potentially hostile situations, or simply avoid them altogether. One of the most groundbreaking features of Wasteland was its persistent world, wherein players could revisit areas and find them in the same state they'd left them in hours before.
