20 Most Hotly Anticipated Games Still To Come In 2014

14. Alien: Isolation (Oct 7)

What is it about the Alien movies that video game developers just can't seem to get right these days? Aliens: Colonial Marines was one of the most disappointing games of the last 5 years, and so we're intrigued to see that The Creative Assembly have opted for a completely different approach with their survival horror title Alien: Isolation. If Colonial Marines attempted to emulate the run-and-gun thrills of James Cameron's movie, Isolation is back to the claustrophobic tension of Ridley Scott's original, with players taking control of Ellen Ripley's daughter Amanda as she investigates the disappearance of her mother. Kitted out with just a motion tracker and a flashlight, the goal of the game is to evade the Xenomorph (yes, the game has just one alien throughout) rather than engage it, using stealth to sneak away, much like in games such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent. This style seems wholly more appropriate to the Alien franchise as a whole, and should ensure that the single Xenomorph remains a consistent threat rather than goofy bullet fodder as in Colonial Marines. It would probably make sense for the game to only last 3 or 4 hours, but if those hours are tension-soaked and visceral, then they'll be more than enough. Predicted MetaCritic Score: 78
