8. The Death Of John Marston - Red Dead Redemption

I always thought it would be amazing to be a cowboy when I was a kid. I mean, you got to wear really cool boots, abided by nobody's rules but your own and weren't tied down to any single place. In short, the world was your oyster - at least, that's how the films always portrayed it.

Red Dead Redemption, on the other hand, ignored the romanticised 'Hollywood glamour' associated with the lifestyle and gave the archetypal bad boy/free man archetype a new spin.

John Marston did some bad stuff before he reformed and settled down, but, unlike his former colleagues, he attempted to right his past wrongs by hunting down the very men he used to call friends with the promise by government officials that his reward for doing so would be a quiet life with his family.

He gets his wish... for all of five minutes. The men who are supposed to be on the right side of the law turn out to be no better than the scum he spent the entire game killing and cut short Marston's life just as it looks to be improving. Rest in piece, my friend.
