Rockstar must have been quietly confident that GTA 3 was going to be a massive hit, as they were already teasing their next project by the time it came out.

Around the airport area in Liberty City you can see a very, very blurry billboard which says 'See you in Miami', with a picture of a plane. At the time, you'd think absolutely nothing of it, but knowing what we know now, it takes on new meaning.

A couple of years after GTA 3 released, Rockstar unveiled Vice City, which was coincidentally set in GTA's own version of Miami. Almost like they were teasing where we going next before we knew it even existed, eh?

Turns out the original plan was to create a direct sequel to GTA 3 called GTA: Miami. What happened instead is at some point Rockstar decided to turn the game into a prequel, and Vice City, set in the 80s, was born.
