Metal Gear Solid 2 is often credited with being not only a postmodern game but also predicting many societal trends that would emerge in the now-20 years since its release.

Though the game was criticised by many upon release for being overly wordy and even "incomprehensible," in recent years it's taken on a strange prescience, particularly with how it predicted the increasingly intrusive nature of technology in our lives, and the very notion of "fake news."

During Raiden's late-game chats with the "Colonel," Kojima espouses his philosophy for how easily misinformation can be disseminated in the Internet age, whereby half-truths and hyperbole prompt each "side" of an argument to further entrench their position while viewing the other side as disingenuous.

Just look at the Russia-hacked U.S. election in 2016, whereby algorithms were exploited to trigger each side's most tribalist instincts and create the division necessary for a candidate like Trump to actually win the damn thing.

This isn't to say that Kojima is an oracle, but he certainly had his finger on the pulse of some bold ideas that wouldn't truly come into focus until almost two decades later. Bravo.
