20 Most Anticipated Video Games of 2025

The games that will (hopefully) define 2025.

Grand Theft Auto VI Lucia
Rockstar

It's fair to say that 2024 wasn't quite the wall-to-wall year of banger video games that 2023 was, but it still re-affirmed that the medium has more quality content to offer players than ever before - even with the devastatingly perilous state of the industry itself.

And 2025 looks set to be another banner year for video games, assuming of course that most of the intended titles actually hit their planned release dates over the next 12 months.

Regardless of your tastes and whatever platform you're playing on - perhaps even the shiny new Nintendo Switch 2... whenever it finally comes out - there's a diverse platter of games due to come down the pike throughout 2025.

From long-awaited AAA titles that've spent upwards of a decade in development, to AA spin-offs, and small indies so thoroughly deserving of your attention, these are the games that should define the next year.

Of course it's always nice to be pleasantly surprised by a smash hit game that comes totally out of nowhere, so hopefully 2025 will offer up some shock hits we never knew we wanted.

But for now, these are the games to keep your eye on...

20. Avowed

Grand Theft Auto VI Lucia
Obsidian

Let's kick this list off with one of the year's longest-gestating titles - Obsidian Entertainment's new action-RPG set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, Avowed.

Avowed began development in 2018 and looks like one hell of a dazzling genre offering, tossing guns into the mix to ensure that this is far from your typical AAA fantasy romp.

Obsidian has managed expectations upfront by revealing that Avowed will have a more confined scope than, say, Skyrim, opting to place a greater emphasis on its story and characters.

In an era where AAA bloat has never felt more overwhelming, this is surely music to the ears of many players.

And better yet, you'll be able to play it for just a few quid as it launches day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Avowed releases on February 18.
