It might have taken 23 years, but we're finally getting a proper, pixellated Sonic sequel.

Assembled not by Sega - who've burnt too many pies to be trusted with the utensils anymore - Sonic Mania is headed up by Christian Whitehead; a chap who's made it his life's work to make old-school Sonic mods, thereby making him the perfect candidate to lead an official project.

Alongside hand-picking a selection of levels from the original trilogy, we're getting completely remastered music, a truly soul-stirring theme song and even a bevy of new levels, designed from the ground up by Whitehead and his team.
