20 Most Critically Adored Horror Video Games Of All Time

1. The Suffering

Rating: 80

It's rare to see a horror property that is genuinely unique - The Suffering fits this bill impressively.

Set in a prison overrun by monsters, The Suffering tests the player's morality constantly by giving them the option to deal with other survivors on the island. There's also an interesting gameplay mechanic which allows the player to become a demon themselves, boosting their survivability and strength in combat.

Dark and oppressive, The Suffering uses sound impressively well, creating an atmosphere that will frighten and shock in equal amounts.
