20 Most Overrated Pokémon In History

7. Smeargle

Charizard Anime
Nintendo

A surprising number of players still make use of a Pokémon that offers very little more than an interesting gimmick and a small cameo in the Unown backstory. Smeargle's only usable attack is Sketch, over and over, which allows it to pick up the opponent's last-used move for the remainder of each battle.

But there are two huge flaws with this. Firstly, you rely heavily on luck and on your opponent not understanding what they're up against for this to work well. Anyone who knows what Smeargle can do won't risk its trainer picking up a powerful attack from it, and will either opt for inflicting devastating defeat or incremental blows.

Secondly, Smeargle is very ill-equipped to use most other attacks due to poor stats. It's fairly quick, but both of its offensive stats are so low that it will invariably always sell any physical or ranged attack short. Even if it holds a Focus Sash and can pick up a powerful attack in the process, the chances are it will be too poorly built to do the thing justice on the next turn anyway.
